One constant concern when developing for children is making sure you communicate not only the right material, but that you do so the right way. When considering animated introductions and interstitials for CA’s Vocabulary product for Grades 3-5, we knew we wanted to have a great sense of movement and motion. We also knew we really wanted to focus literally on words themselves, plus on the strategies and emerging reader might use to figure out the meaning of a word they don’t already know. Specifically we wanted kids to think about the parts that make a word and what clues they may hold, the context in which the word appears, and if none of that works– just look the word up.

We wanted the animation to be playful and engaging, short but vibrant and colorful, and to reinforce the idea that words themselves are a primary source of fun.
